containerboard business is a particularly good application. Containerboard is
the paper material that is used to construct corrugated boxes. Optware Solutions
helped Willamette
Industries, a large producer with over 40 facilities, to improve production
efficiencies and reduce freight by means of our Containerboard Sourcing
System.
In an integrated environment with mills and box plants, there are
thousands of options to source paper including: purchases, trades, and
internal production. There are also a number of very specific issues to deal
with such as machine utilization (trim), manufacturing costs, trade
conditions, and logistics issues. The Optware model was employed to create monthly sourcing
plans as well as to help determine long term strategic supply options such as trades.
The greatest compliment was paid when the client stated, "We can't source
our paper
very well without Optware". Annual savings exceeded three million dollars
per year.
